Copia vs Simplifi

An honest comparison of Copia and Quicken Simplifi. Simplifi is a spending-plan tracker from Quicken. Copia is zero-based budgeting at $4.99/month, with a free manual plan.

The short version

Simplifi by Quicken is a spending-plan app. It connects your banks, builds a plan from income and bills, and shows what is left to spend. Copia is a zero-based budget. Every dollar gets a job on a sheet you can edit.

Simplifi is often the cheaper paid tracker in this category, especially if you pay annually. Copia is $4.99/month for bank sync and automation, and the manual budget is free. If you want Quicken-style tracking and net worth extras, Simplifi may fit. If you want a real budget sheet plus receipts and an assistant, that is us.

Where Simplifi is better

Simplifi has been in this market longer, with iOS and Android apps in the stores today. It tracks investments and net worth, has a Bills and Income calendar, advanced transaction rules, tags, splits, and vehicle values through Kelley Blue Book. Quicken Assist can answer questions about your data and, with approval, update goals, transactions, and rules.

Copia does not have store listings, net worth, investment views, or splits yet. We would rather say that than pad the table.

Simplifi can also beat us on the annual price. Promo and yearly billing have been in the $3 to $7 per month range, which is less than $4.99/month. We will not pretend otherwise.

Where Copia is better

Copia is built around the budget sheet, not a leftover-to-spend number. You assign income to categories, hide what you are not using, and copy last month forward. The free plan is a full manual budget with no card required. Simplifi is paid after a money-back window.

We also include things Simplifi does not treat as first-class. Receipts extract line items and can arrive by email, not only as a photo stuck on a transaction. Photo import turns a statement or receipt into categorized rows. Smooth History tries to match those rows when the bank syncs later so you are not staring at duplicates.

Pricing

Simplifi is commonly $5.99 to $9.99/month, or less if you catch an annual promo. Copia is $4.99/month for bank sync, rules, receipts, and the assistant, with manual budgeting free. That Copia price is beta pricing, and we will tell you before it ever changes.

Switching

Export transactions from Simplifi as CSV and import them in Copia. Bank connections use Plaid on both sides, so most institutions will connect. Category names will need a pass. If something looks wrong, ask in Discord.
